A bicycle shall be equipped with at least two independant braking systems which work on front- and rear wheel respectively. Wheels on the same axle must be braked by the same braking system. A bicycle that you have started using before 1. January 1998 may yet be equipped with just a foot brake that works on the rear wheel, unless the bicycle is attached to a bicycle trailer or a side car.

The braking of the bicycle must be safe and effective at any speed and with any loading.

The weather conditions may not considerably reduce the brake functioning.
Concerning a braking system controlled by the pedals, full braking must be attainable by pushing the pedal from horizontal state and down.
