Safety-confrontation

 

 

 

 

Even though the traffic is limited during the night and morning hours - take care of yourself and others. Keep yourself in control although you are moving at a high pace.

Avoid confrontation if you are intruded upon

If you foresee problems with prople in the street, do not discuss. Instead choose another path. If somebody tries to steal your papers or your vehicle, let it happen. Don't even make a confrontation out of a few papers or a vehicle - it's just things that are replaceable.

Fortunately muggings are very rare (never heard of in our area) consequently there are no reason to be worried although episodes of violence has been heard of for example in front of bars and discothéques.

Don't be a Hero - use the Alarm-line

It is essential that yu do not take chances and trying to be a hero. Do you feel unsafe - chose another path. If you have to skip a delivery - so be it and call the office at a appropriate time. Any doubt - call the Alarm-line.

In case of violence

If you get involved, or witnesses, violence at your district, do as follows:

  • Call 112 (ambulance and Police)
  • Report name (CPR no.), where you are, and explain what is going on
  • If you can not get through to the police, call the company Alarm-line

You meet an aggressively looking person on your path:

Wrong!
You do not have the courage to make the change to the other side of the street, thinking if I avoid him, he will attack me first.

Right!
You cross the street at a rapid pace, showing that this was precisely your intention. This way you avoid the confrontation. Dodge the confrontation and swallow your pride.

You have a feeling that you are being followed:

Wrong!
You continue as your fear grows.

Right!
Make a brief turn and look the person in the eyes as you let him or her pass you. Now he is in front of you and you can much easier cope with the situation. If the person had the intention of mugging you, your stare and the fact that you made a stop, intimidates the person and the pursuing has stopped. 

You are being attacked, but remain standing (attacks are very rare):

Wrong!
Your body language says: "Leave me alone, I will you no harm," but your attitude actually invites the person to attack.

Right!
Make an immidiate step forward - left foot forward id you are right handed. 40 cm between your legs, knees a little bent. Torso and head upwards. In this position you are hard to tumble over. (check video at www.budsikker.dk)

You are being pulled by the hair:

Wrong!
You are trying to wrench yourself away, which is very painful.

Right!
Press - with one hand on the top of the other - the attackers hand against your own head. This way you stop the pain even though you are boing lifted by the hair. The pain is "acceptable" and you can kick the attacker. Alternative: "Get a navy-cut" (check video at www.budsikker.dk)

You are being pulled in the arm or shoulder:

Wrong!
You are trying - without luck - to free yourself.

Right!
Even though this sounds absurd - you hold on to the attacker at his wrist. You hereby get a good grip. If you cannot get hold od the wrist(s), you grap the clothes. Using your hindmost leg you kick - as forceful as possible (it has to hurt) the attackers shin 2-3 times. If you can hit the groin, give it a try. Move away and repeat. When the perpetrator are on the ground call for help. Never turn your back to the attacker until you have backup from the police or others. (check video at www.budsikker.dk)
